Abstract


The use of various types of splints and occlusal wafer the management of jaw- fractures in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and in a various of other surgical procedures involving the oral cavity is not new.
However, the employment of splints and occlusal wafer has remained a controversal and has failed to receive the general acceptance which this extremely valuable adjunct to tho field of oral surgery so richly deserves.
We retrospectively reviewed 93 patient who treated by splints and occlusal wafer from sustained a total of 221 maxillofacial fractures at our department between 1984~1986.
Overall, the result of treatment of maxillofacial fractures that were obtained could be considerated highly successful.
